US Troop Support

For several years, Mt. Zion has maintained a partnership with the Chaplain Staff and the Catholic Community at US Army base Fort Detrick in Frederick in an effort to provide ongoing support to our men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and to our wounded troops hospitalized stateside.

All throughout the year, we collect personal care and recreational items for our troops.  We then assemble care packages, as well as send personal notes and cards of support to our heroes fighting in the War Against Terror and to those who have returned home wounded.  Several of our congregational and community families have members who are currently active military, and we support them and their units with love gifts, too.

There is a box in the narthex for collecting items such as gum, hard candy, batteries, phone cards, toothbrushes, toothpaste, fruit, tuna, energy bars, individual size chips, fruit pies, snack cakes, baby wipes, shaving cream, Mac 3 razors, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, chap stick, AA or AAA batteries, cotton balls, Q-tips, toothpicks, sunglasses, sunscreen, deodorant, soap, flashlights, sewing kits, socks, dark colored towels and washclothes.
